Mainly alpine meadows above tree line, less often in mountain forests.
Adults collected May to September.
Member of the ventricosus group, (subgenus Cryobius.) Black, upper surface without metallic lustre, elytra not iridescent; palpi, antennae and legs rufous. Prothorax very convex with strongly rounded sides and short basal sinuation, front-angles very little prominent, hind-angles right or slightly obtuse, usually denticulate. Lateral bead rather coarse basally, elytra with small shoulder tooth and usually only 2 dorsal punctures.
