Gently flowing waters (Schmid, 1998).
Adults are entriely black. Spur formula 1, 4, 4. Nearly 20 Nearctic species with only 4 occuring in central and eastern Canada and only one in Alberta, C. socia (Schmid, 1998).
Often locally abundant and attracted to lights (Schmid, 1998).
Detritus and algae (Wiggins, 1996).
Cosmopolitan with strong Tropical affinities (Schmid, 1998).
