Sloughs, ponds, lakes, and smaller smooth-flowing creeks and rivers.
Adults fly from early June to late August.
Adults are medium sized, robust and rust-coloured caddisflies. The maxillary palpi are relatively long. Pronotum is rather wide. Spur formula is 1, 3, 4.
Larvae are detritovores, feeding on vascular plant tissues.
This genus is Holarctic in distribution.
