| scientific name Macrochilo louisiana (Forbes) common name Lousiana Snout-moth habitat Wet meadows, fens, wetland edges etc. seasonality Adults have been taken in July. identification A small (2.5-2.7 cm. wingspan) very pale cream or dirty white moth with narrow, squared forewings. The wings are sparsely dusted with darker scales. The antemedian line is marked by two dots, in the fold and in the cell. The postmedian line fine and fragmentary, in a wide arc on the upper half only, on the lower marked by a dot in the fold. The subterminal line faint and pale, preceded by dark points. Base of costa is dark with a pale apex. There are two widely separated discal dots. Hindwings are dirty white, with a faint darker subterminal shade. life history The adults are nocturnal and come to light. No other data available. conservation Very scarce here at the northwestern edge of its large range; no concerns. diet info Unknown. range From Maine and Quebec east across Canada to central Alberta, south to Florida and Louisiana.
